Due to a shortage of nickel for the WWII effort, these were minted 1942 - 1945 with 35% silver, 56% copper and the remainder manganese. A large mintmark was placed over Monticello on the reverse. This is the first time the letter "P" appeared on a US coin. Reverse toning
