An unusual set of circumstances leads to this error type. In its simplest form, a brockage is an incuse, mirror-image version of the design, produced when a coin is struck into a planchet. The considerably rarer counterbrockage is a raised, normally oriented version of the design, produced when a coin or more likely a die capped coin bearing a brockage is driven into a planchet. The counterbrockage elements on this example include much of Lincoln’s bust, the numbers “197”, and the letters ERTY”. These were generated by the original incuse design on the working face of the die cap. NGC MS62 RB. An excellent type coin if needed.
