The 1853 Silver Three Cent Piece or Trime in  Extra Fine condition, is a fascinating relic of American coinage history Minted from 1851 to 1873, it is small in size 14mm, .75 grams, 75% silver and a unique denomination and smallest coin ever minted by the US.

With its rich history and stunning design, the 1853 Trime is an excellent coin for a type set.  According to the Red Book, most all of the non-proof coins from '63 - '72 were melted in 1873. In 1854 the mint changed the composition of these to 90% silver and 10% copper.
